Having Shin Splints or calf pains?
Try relaxing everything below your knees. Your calves don't do a very good job of propelling your body. They are not big enough to sustain the long term work. They are there to balance you when you land. Your momentum for running comes from a forward lean (not at the waist). So pick the knee up and set the foot down.
Also, try not pointing your toe toward the sky. This uses quick twitch muscles in your shins that fatigue very quickly, then the tendon gets soar followed by the bone. Keeping your toe down will also force you to take a smaller stride and land with less weight.
